“Signature Kitchens & Baths”

This McLean, Virginia, family was not satisfied with their
inefficiently composed kitchen and Kathleen (homeowner)
craved a reinvented space. The dysfunctional layout
resulted in wasteful, noncohesive quarters. They called
on Matt Sbitani of MJA Design, Inc., who creatively
incorporated the openness and warmth of a Great Room
Kitchen through the design of the unique and stylish
peninsula and the arched pass-through cooking center-
elements that helped integrate all the rooms into one
united living and entertaining space. The revived space,
which includes a fireplace and desk, allows family
members to engage in a multitude of activities while
enjoying the closeness provided by the new layout.
Kathleen also wanted the dining room to be part of the
living space without sacrificing the feeling of a formal
setting. By replacing a wall that separated the dining
room from the kitchen with an appealing and distinctive
arched pass-through, MJA Design made it possible for
natural light to fill the room while retaining a proper
tone. Cabinetry matching that of the kitchen on the side
of the dining room allows for a seamless transition as
well as accessible storage. This Great Room Kitchen now
allows them to bring friends and loved ones together in
a most welcoming and warm atmosphere.
